With the review of the Building Code to improve the standard of construction, weatherproofing and finishes of new buildings, not only do products and processes have to comply (appraised, verified and approved) but skills of personnel applying them have to improve and be certified.

Today construction companies and certain trades have to be licensed practitioners and approved Gunac applicator firms certified by Hitchins New Zealand Limited.   All trades personnel have to be certified by 2010, particularly those involved in waterproofing the umbrella of the building, i.e. roofs, gutters, parapets, walls, windows and doors, decks, balustrades, wall protrusions and below-ground tanking.   All areas requiring weather protection.

Industry and suppliers have to provide training to raise the skill levels of applicators and installers of waterproofing systems.
